What One Can of Coke Does to Your Body in Only One Hour

Image
It’s pretty eye opening. (Photo: Getty Images) “Soda is a health food!” said no one, ever (well, in the past 20 years, at least). So it hardly comes as a surprise that drinking soda can have a negative impact on your body. But while most of us know soda isn’t good for us, we also don’t know exactly what happens to our bodies once we drink it. A detailed new infographic from TheRenegadePharmacist.com  breaks it down, step by step — and it’s not pretty. Here’s what happens after you drink a Coke:

Nigeria poll suggests 87% oppose gay rights

A new opinion poll suggests that 87% of people in Nigeria support the legal ban on same-sex relations. That number is lower than five years ago, when 96% of Nigerians opposed relationships between same-sex couples. Gay rights activists, who commissioned the poll, said this showed attitudes towards gay people were changing, albeit slowly. Nigeria is a deeply conservative country and religion plays a major role in society. The government tightened anti-gay laws last year, banning same-sex marriages, gay groups and shows of same-sex public affection. 'Progress' Campaigners say the laws are among the most draconian anywhere - and impose a sentence of up to 14 years in prison for same-sex couples. About 1,000 people across Nigeria took part in the telephone poll which was commissioned by gay rights groups, including the Bisi Alimi Foundation. Many Nigerians are deeply religious

The Solar Impulse 2 flies over Nagoya Airport after taking off in Toyoyama, near Nagoya, central Japan.  (Kyodo News via AP) Solar Impulse 2 passed the "point of no return" early Monday, about 16 hours into the solar-powered plane’s audacious attempt to cross the Pacific from Japan. No immediate landing is now available to pilot Andre Borschberg as he attempts to reach Hawaii, a 4,908-mile journey across a vast expanse of ocean, which is expected to last 120 hours. Solar Impulse 2 took off from Nagoya, Japan at 2:03 p.m. ET Sunday, embarking on the most difficult leg of its round-the-world trip. “The real moment of truth still lies ahead,” said Borschberg, in a statement. “We are now at the point in the Round-the-World Solar Flight where everything comes together.” Solar Impulse 2, a larger version of a single-seat prototype that first flew five years ago, is made of carbon

Indonesian military transport plane crashes in residential neighborhood in Medan, 37 reported dead

Image
MEDAN, Indonesia –   An Indonesian air force transport plane plowed into a residential neighborhood in the country's third-largest city of Medan shortly after takeoff on Tuesday, killing dozens of people. Television footage showed the wreckage of the downed C-130 Hercules, a crumpled burning car and a shattered building that local media said contained a spa and homes. Smoke billowed from the site and several thousand people milled nearby. North Sumatra police chief Eko Hadi Sutedjo told reporters that the plane was carrying 50 people based on its manifest. But air force chief Air Marshall Agus Supriatna said there was uncertainty about the total number of people on board because the plane had traveled from the capital, Jakarta, and stopped at two locations before arriving at Medan. Some passengers were families of military personnel. Sutedjo said 37 bodies have been transported to Medan's Adam Malik ho

By Arden Dier Published June 27, 2015 File photo - An old wall drawing depicting a portrait of Vlad the Impaler is seen in a house in Sighisoara, Romania, where his father lived.  (Reuters) Archaeologists still aren't entirely sure where a secret passageway beneath a castle in Turkey leads, but visitors can now explore it for themselves. Not far from where Vlad the Impaler—the inspiration for Dracula— was reportedly held in one of two dungeons inside Tokat Castle, the tunnel stretches for about 100 feet before the path is blocked, reports Hurriyet Daily News . "We have made progress. Since it has an angle of 45 degrees, it is hard to remove stones and earth," culture and tourism director Abdurrahman Akyuz says of the tunnel, found during restoration efforts in 2009. "We think that this tunnel was closed in the past to prevent possible danger." Earlier this year, Akyuz told the Daily Sabah that "t

What does it feel like to die? People who have been clinically dead and then revived have shared some chilling insights into what actually happens in those final moments – and beyond.

1.  My world became soft and foggy and everything faded to black. Next thing I remember was opening my eyes and hearing a Doctor say, ‘We got him back.’ It was really a peaceful feeling more than anything. 2.  Overdosed on heroin, the Emergency Room team said my heart stopped. Didn’t see anything, just like sleeping with no dreams. What does it feel like to die? Agony or peace? 3.  It felt to me that my entire life was a silly show I was focused on and forgot that it was simply a distraction from what was REALLY happening. I fell out of the 3rd dimension into…another dimension? I know it sounds crazy but maybe it was just chemicals in my head that created all the visuals. I’m not sure. Treat all Nigerians equally

Kaduna—Northern Elders’ Forum, has asked President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to serve all Nigerians equally as he mounts the saddle of the nation’s leadership and be ready for its criticism. From left: Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola; All Progressives Congress Chieftain, Bola Tinubu; President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari and Lagos governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode,. The Secretary General of the NEF, Prof Ango Abdullahi, told Vanguard in an exclusive interview that although the forum was elated with Buhari’s victory  in the last election, they were also insisting that the president-elect should stand up for the rights of all Nigerians. Describing the choice of Buhari as the emergence of a true Nigerian president, Abdullahi, a pro-rotation advocate, pointed out that the forum was certain the new leader would turn Nigeria around and give the citizenry a new lease of life. “As far as NEF is concerned, the right thing has just been done in Nigeria and we are happy the
