Acting President Yemi Osinbajo caused panic among staff of the various agencies manning the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, when he suddenly appeared to have first-hand knowledge of installed facilities. Osinbajo’s visit to the airport is coming just days after he began a 60-day move, through the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) he chairs, to strengthen the Nigerian economy. Osinbajo spent over one hour inspecting facilities at the airport. Accompanied by Hadi Sirika, the minister of state for Aviation, acting president was said to have found out that the carousels in the arrival hall were not functioning. He also discovered that air-conditioners and chillers in the departure and arrival halls were not working. Apart from this, the escalators and elevators were non-functional. He also declared reportedly declared an urgent task to correct many of the problems already identified by the council.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has landed in London and is scheduled to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari in London on Wednesday. The U.S. and Japan successfully completed a ballistic missile intercept in a spectacular test off the west coast of Hawaii last week. The U.S. Missile Defense Agency, Japan’s Ministry of Defense and U.S. Navy sailors aboard the USS John Paul Jones conducted the intercept test on Feb. 3. The test marks the first time that a ballistic missile has been targeted using the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IIA interceptor. Developed by the U.S. and Japan, the SM-3 Block IIA aims to tackle medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles. The interceptor works as part of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system, according to the Missile Defense Agency.
